Why Midlife Is the Perfect Time to Start (or Fix) Your Business
A client recently shared with me why she decided to say yes to joining my mastermind, and I think her story captures something many of us feel in midlife.
She had listened to a podcast, then followed up by looking at the website of a coach who had asked a question during the show. On the site, she watched a couple of videos.
What struck her wasn’t the content. It was the delivery. The speed of her speech. Her body language. The way she presented herself just didn’t seem to fit with the sensitivity of the topic she was addressing.
That observation sparked a realisation. She told me “It’s these things that other people can see, that we fail to see ourselves, that might help us see where we’re going wrong.”
Her other hesitation? Fear. And yet, that’s exactly why she chose to join.
Because in business, we rarely see ourselves clearly. We’re too close to our own work. We miss the signals we’re sending, the gaps in our strategy, or the ways we’re holding ourselves back. Having others reflect those blind spots with compassion and insight is what makes growth possible.
Midlife is often painted as a time of crisis, but I see it differently. It’s a season of clarity. We’ve lived enough to know what matters and what doesn’t. We’ve developed resilience from the challenges we’ve overcome. And many of us reach a point where we’re ready to stop living by others’ expectations and start building something of our own.
But there’s a flip side. Fear creeps in.
What if I fail?
What if others see I’m not as good as I want to be?
What if I don’t know how to fix it?
These fears can hold us back from taking the very steps that would transform our business, and our life.
The reality is, midlife is the best time to start (or fix) your business. Here’s why:
You have experience. You’ve worked, led, raised families, managed households, and navigated challenges. You already have a toolkit of skills to draw on.
You know yourself better. Midlife strips away the need to please everyone. You’re clearer on your values, and you want to live and work in alignment with them.
You’re ready for impact. This is the season when many of us stop chasing and start creating. You want your business to matter, not just to pay the bills.
You don’t have to do it alone. Unlike your younger years, you know the value of support. Whether it’s a coach, a mastermind, or a network of peers, you understand that being surrounded by the right people accelerates your growth.
My client’s story is really about courage. She recognised her blind spots. She admitted her fear. And then she chose support that would help her grow.
That’s the leap so many women in midlife need to take. Imagine having a safe space to test ideas, refine your message, and receive honest feedback. Imagine no longer second guessing yourself, because you have the clarity and tools to move forward. Imagine finally building the business you’ve been dreaming about. One that fits your life and reflects your values.
If you’ve been wondering whether now is the right time to start (or fix) your business, consider this your sign. Midlife isn’t a crisis. It’s your opportunity. And you don’t have to do it alone.
That’s exactly why I created my mastermind: to give women like you the clarity, confidence, and community to grow a business that feels aligned and sustainable.
If you’re ready to explore what that could look like for you, I’d love to talk with you. Send me a message today.
